#80 - LISTENING
There is a need for you to listen. Know that you need the discipline of being still and meditating. A quieting of the mind.
The way you listen at this moment in time is similar to being on the receiving end of a phone conversation while having your television or stereo volume up very loud.
The outside or background interference prevents you from hearing or being fully aware. There is too much noise in your head.
Take time to be still, to listen, to write, everyday. If you will be but still and listen, wonders will unfold for you!
The discipline of quieting my mind is a very useful tool in spiritual and personal awakening. This does not necessarily mean I sit in the lotus position (torturing myself) chanting mantras. Any attempt at sitting in a cross-legged position will have me focusing on the desire for a masseuse or a chiropractor. When I meditate, I take time to listen to the little voice within. I may just close my eyes in a comfortable chair and ask a question. I always take a question into meditation. I listen for the response. It is about stopping in this chaotic world and taking a time out - to listen.
I have to admit I am not the worlds best at meditation. I am easily distracted and become easily uncomfortable, but when I do feel the urge to sit and be still, it is always a pleasant and rewarding experience. I listen to my inner self, my higher self, my God, when meditating. I have tried to listen with my inner stereo turned up loud. Listening when there is simply too much outside noise does not work for me. I cannot listen with all the chatter inside as well. I have to clear space for the God influence. I cannot listen to God and listen to all the outside noise at the same time. Quieting my mind is being conscious that I can slow down, relax, and turn within. My meditations take the form of listening while I am taking a shower, driving a car, lying in bed looking at the ceiling, walking along a quiet path, sitting beneath a tree, getting close to nature, listening to a soothing environmental tape, etc. Meditating is about relaxing, stilling the outside world so it is quiet enough to listen, to become creative, and allow for the opportunity to hear higher thoughts, higher wisdoms.
I allow myself the freedom and easiness to make time to be still and listen.
